Practical Manual on Weed Management (with colour illustration) by P.L. Maliwal

The manual entitled “Practical Manual on Weed Management” has been designed to fulfill the requirement of post graduate students of Agronomy offering the course “Principles and Practices of Weed Management”. The manual is prepared strictly following the syllabus of the course. The manual makes an attempt to present the available information on practicals in weed science in a very simple and lucid language. The manual contains practicals on identification of weeds in field along with photographs, weed survey in cropped and non-cropped areas, preparation of weed herbarium, weed crop competition studies, an introduction to herbicides, herbicide application equipments, and their maintenance   calibration of spray equipments. This manual also included solved and unsolved numerical problems pertaining to computation of herbicide doses and important weed indices, economic evaluation of weed control options, etc. The students community may harness benefit from this manual not only in learning the course but also very useful in research. I hope this manual will be very useful for the students, teachers, researchers and extension specialists and other interested in weed management.

Dr. P.L. Maliwal did his B.Sc.(Ag.) and M.Sc.(Ag.) in agronomy discipline from the University of Udaipur, Udaipur in 1976 and 1979, respectively. He was awarded ICAR scholarship for his under graduate studies. He obtained Ph.D. degree from Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur during the year 1987. Dr. Maliwal started his career as lecturer in the field of Agronomy at University of Udaipur, Udaipur. Dr. Maliwal served in different positions like Associate Director Research, Zonal Director Research, Director Extension Education and retired as Director Research from Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur (Rajasthan).
Dr. Maliwal has published more than 85 research papers and technical articles in various journals and magazines of national and international repute. He has also written books entitled “Agronomy at a Glance (two volumes)”, “Agricultural Development in Rajasthan”, “Technologies for Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture”, “Textbook of Weed Management” and “Textbook of Weed Management in Horticultural Crops”. He is also co-author of three books for vocational education (Agriculture) students. He is the recipient of best university teacher award of MPUAT, Udaipur for the year 2001-02. Presently he is working as ICAR- Emeritus Professor at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology Udaipur (Rajasthan).
